Here are a few stories that I have found interesting and I hope you will, too!
“In a milestone study, scientists are able to apply the method to watch activity in nerve cells during animal behavior.”
- How dark chocolate may guard against brain injury from stroke! ( I certainly want to believe this!)
“Researchers at Johns Hopkins have discovered that a compound in dark chocolate may protect the brain after a stroke by increasing cellular signals already known to shield nerve cells from damage.”
“There is growing evidence that combining activities such as walking or cycling with nature boosts well-being.”
“They said people regularly having such little sleep were 12% more likely to die over a 25-year period than those who got an “ideal” six to eight hours.
“In bonobos, our observations are the first reported use of preventive head-shaking,” say Ms Christel Schneider from the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, Leipzig, Germany.

That dark chocolate study is really intriguing. What was the most interesting was the residents on the island of Kuna and how they were protected from heart disease until they left the island. I feel like there is some important research to be done on the cocoa there. I too would like to think this is true. Ever since I heard dark chocolate had some healthy qualities a few years ago, I try to choose dark chocolate over milk chocolate.

The Green Exercise study was really interesting! I love exercising but I usually just go to the gym because I find it to be more convenient if I can only go late at night. Knowing that working out outside, however, motivates me to want to be in the outdoors even if it just for a walk. Now I can rest on the fact that even though I have to walk all the way across campus for some of my classes, I am stimulating my brain and helping to become mentally healthier. This also helps as a major case for people trying to keep physical education in the elementary schools. Not only are we combating childhood obesity but we are helping to keep our kids mentally healthy.

As I just finished eating a piece of dark chocolate, literally. I went on the computer and read this dark chocolate piece. I also certainly want to believe the article! But I guess in reality, we really need to be looking out for “epicatechin,” not just the “dark chocolate” label. I used to to prefer to eat milk chocolate and not be a huge dark chocolate fan. But as I am getting older and different taste buds, I prefer to eat dark chocolate now! And plus, it’s a healthier choice!
