Here are a few fun stories for today:

“Coaching happens just about everywhere, and every day, with learning as the goal.” (Positive Coaching)

“With his coat billowing behind him and his right eye tightly closed, Captain Blackbeard watches the endless sea with his telescope. Suddenly the sea disappears as the pirate opens his right eye. The only thing he sees is his hand holding the telescope. And then, a moment later, the sea is back again. What happened was a change in perception. Our brain usually combines the two slightly divergent images of our eyes into a single consistent perception. However, if the visual information does not match, only one image is seen at a time. This phenomenon is called “binocular rivalry.””

not to worry , Mom, breast feeding won’t rob you of sleep

I agree with the article on coaching with compassion. The style of coaching is very important to the way people learn. Even with myself, I find it easier to learn something from somebody else when I’m being motivated and inspired. Some people may think that intimidation is a good way of keeping students on track, but it is difficult to learn something when you are afraid to speak your mind or are restricted in some way from expressing yourself freely.

The article “Coaching with Compassion” is a great one! My boyfriend and I always disagree on which coaching methods are more effective, and this artice proved me right! 🙂 There was one point in my life, while on a school volleyball team, that I had a head coach that was compassionate, and an assistant coach that was critical. I was able to experience coaching styles, and felt as though the compassionate style was much more effective. By the compassionate coach, I felt as though my mistakes were only getting me closer to my goal by learning from them. On the other hand, the critical coach made me feel as though my mistakes would hinder the furthering of my process. I thought it was very interesting to read about the visual cortex and it’s activity during these times of positive coaching. I have said in the past that through positive coaching, I have been able to ‘visualize’ my success and victory, and this study shows why. As someone who has thought about going into a field of sports psychology, I thoroughly enjoyed these findings!

I find the article about sleep and breast feeding to be very interesting. It is very important for both the mom and the baby to get enough sleep despite little inconveniences. Breast feeding has so many health benefits for the baby that just cannot be provided through even the most advance formula.
Also, since the study shows that there’s no difference in lack of sleep between breast feeding and formula feeding mom, it makes me wonder what effects will it have on the father (assuming the father takes an active role in feeding the baby).
