Here are a couple of stories of interest today!
“Common sense and experience would suggest that people are more creative when they work together in a face-to-face environment. But, as remote working and online interactions become more and more commonplace, there is growing evidence that working in virtual communities and using online tools together can be even more effective in some areas than face-to-face cooperation.”
“Sensation seeking — the urge to do exciting things — has been linked to dopamine, a chemical that carries messages in your brain. For a new study published in Psychological Science, a journal of the Association for Psychological Science, scientists analyzed genes in the dopamine system and found a group of mutations that help predict whether someone is inclined toward sensation seeking.”

I was really pleased that one of the articles was about online interactions as opposed to face-to-face contact. The article had some really good points on why internet connections would work even more efficiently than sitting down with the person in some situations. I agree with Kommers when he says that some people get to communicate online who would normally never meet in person. The web gives people a chance to associate with their opposites and discuss ideas that the other hadn’t considered. For example, I would meet face-to-face with my coworker or friend and brainstorm ideas that he/she may have as well. But if I skype someone who does not live near me and has different life interests, he/she may spark an idea that would have never crossed my mind. This interaction allows both of us to flourish in a way that we never could have if meetings were restricted to face-to-face contact. I think that expanding online resources of communication would be very beneficial and will result in much better brainstorming!
