Many thanks to our friend Emonome for noticing that my blog is a finalist for the 2007 Weblog award in the “Best Individual Blogger” category. I am truly humbled by this recognition, and many thanks to those of you who nominated me for this honor. All I set out to do was to hopefully entertain my readers while sharing some of the cool news related to psychology and my hobbies. I have some very good company among the nominees. I’ve already heard of some, but am anxious to check out those I haven’t seen yet. Mr. F will no doubt enjoy the Military and Food blog categories.
Many thanks to Kevin Aylward and his volunteers for their support!

First off all, let me say congratulations on your nomination! To be honest, I am not surprised because upon first visiting the site I was impressed by how professional and involved the site is. There is so many interesting things to read on here! I think it is great that you have a blog as well, which brings me to the discussion of how beneficial “blogs” may be to your physical and mental health. James Pennebaker, Ph.D., a professor of psych at the Univ. of Texas has led a study which found that keeping thoughts bottled up may “lower levels of infection-busting lymphocytes and makes us more susceptible to illness.” There were 2 groups; one group was told to express their feelings through journals while the other group was told to try and control their feelings themselvse. Blood studies showed that those who expressed their feelings had an increase in immune-boosting lymphocytes while the others saw a decrease. Whether you verbally express or write out your feelings, I personally feel that it can relieve so much stress. Even if you do not have an immediate audience, I have experienced the lifted weight once I post my own thoughts concerning a specific topic that I feel compelled to write about. Blogs are great ways to express your thoughts and feelings, and since EVERYONE has an opinion, every individual can participate!

Wow…great stuff on the journals and lymphocytes. I recall having read about this somewhere, but now I’m inspired to go look it up. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, and many thanks for the kind words about my blog.
