what I am reading today

San Luis Obispo is always beautiful, even in your own backyard!

Here are are a few stories that I have found interesting and I hope you will, too!

“The loss of deep sleep is a serious problem that could be treated with testosterone. That would be tremendous progress,” says Sekerovic. “But hormone therapy can have secondary effects. Therefore, it will be essential to better understand the mechanisms leading to the loss of deep sleep.”

This study hints at the existence of underlying genetic linkages between personality, metabolism, and longevity — meaning that selection for personality traits also invokes unintentional results on energetic and life history traits.

In the dog article, the “pace-of-life” syndrome hypothesis was something I have never heard of. Yes, I know that breeders always strive to breed dogs with such traits as hunting and companionship. But I found it fascinating that now scientistss are seeing a correlation between personality, metabolism and longetivity. I definitely agree just by observing my own dog and my friends’ dogs that the obedient ones live longer than disobedient dogs. That’s good for my dog, because she is very well-trained!

I read the article regarding food cravings and how to curb them. I always notice when I am bored that I crave food, and not just any food but specific food. I always wondered why this was and now that the website says to focus on visual things to get rid of the craving I am going to see if that works. Maybe focusing on school work instead of food will allow me to lose weight and do well in school!
