At a recent conference, I had the pleasure to sit next to Kelly McGonigal of Stanford at lunch. Among other things, we talked about her role as the NYT psychology consultant for their inEDUCATION program. Kelly was about to start work on a new book, and thought she should pass the baton to preserve her time. I said I would be interested, and she let the NYT know. So now I find myself enjoying this new role.

The NYT inEDUCATION program grew out of a desire to help faculty who like to incorporate current events in their classrooms. As a textbook writer, I regularly hear from faculty who need help with their teaching preparation. Given the other demands on faculty time, this is a huge problem for many. So what we do for the inEDUCATION program is to identify three NYT articles each week and produce some pedagogy around them that simplifies incorporating the material into class.

Honestly, the most difficult thing I’ve encountered so far is limiting myself to three articles. There are so many from which to choose!
