The Chicago Tribune has confirmed a German TV report that says Floyd Landis’ “A” sample had an 11:1 T/E ratio. That would pretty much wipe out any possible “natural” explanations. In addition, the Tribune notes that a carbon isotope test detected external (unnatural) testosterone, but that he has not yet been charged with that.
T&F superstar Justin Gatlin’s A and B samples failed the carbon isotope test, which is generally believed to be very reliable. The carbon isotope test isn’t typically done until another test fails, as it costs hundreds of dollars, compared to about $100 for the T/E test.
As my readers know, I am a rabid sports fan. As such, this double whammy saddens me greatly. My daughter, a 4-time All-American in track, has some other thoughts as well.
