Talk about culture shock. School starts Monday. I haven’t taught since last March. Cal Poly is on quarter system, and if you teach Summer Quarter as I did in 2005, you can either get extra money or take an academic quarter off. I chose to take off Spring Quarter.

So what did I do on my “vacation?” Lots of writing. Lots and lots and lots of writing. We are beginning to revise Discovering Biological Psychology, and I have a couple of other projects in the pipeline.

It wasn’t all work. In April, I traveled to Hawaii to see Kristin’s Change of Command ceremony, as she took over her first company command.

Being off for Spring Quarter also gave me the opportunity to watch Karen compete for USC in track and field. Of course, it’s always fun when everyone does well–the USC women were runners-up in the NCAA Championships in Sacramento, and Karen set their school record in the shot put at 57′ 7.5″.

I didn’t get all my projects done–there were some maintenance things I wanted to do in my house–oh well. They can wait.

So, another academic year is ahead. Wish me luck!
